Location & Approaches

By boat

The River Deben, a defensive and working river for many hundreds of years. Today, it is the domain of the leisure sailor and a haven to wildlife, a place of hidden creeks and moorings, tranquility and charm.

From the Woodbridge Haven buoy, approach, passing the Port hand mark, West Knoll, and continue towards the Starboard hand mark, Mid Knoll, passing between the sea wall and the ever shifting shingle banks.

From the mouth of the river at Old Felixstowe; where there is still a small flotilla of fishing boats; you’ll notice the imposing Martello towers that guard the entrance and on your starboard side you’ll pass by Bawdsey Manor, location of one of the most important WW2 radar stations. Moving upstream you sail between the expanses of Falkenham and Ramsholt marshes, the home to numerous Curlew, Bittern and Plover that nest in the reeds.

The well buoyed river continues through the moorings at Ramsholt and on towards the village of Waldringfield on your port hand side. Through the moorings in Methersgate reach and up to the port hand mark No 14. Here the channel turns abruptly to port and you are faced with the choice of one of two passages, dependent upon tide. Loders cut, marked by stakes or Troublesome reach, which follows the main buoyed channel. Whichever you choose, you are now within sight of historic Woodbridge and the famous Tidemill and the masts you can see to the right of the Tidemill are within the marina.

The Harbour is protected by a sill, please refer to our online tide tables for access to the marina from the river and take note of the accurate tidal gauge on the sill when entering. Berthing instructions are available by contacting the Harbour Master on VHF channel 80 prior to entry.

By road

The marina is easily reached by road. From the A12, follow the signs for Woodbridge Town Centre and the brown tourist signs for the Tide Mill. Drive down Tide Mill Way and bear left at the end.

By train

The marina is a 5 minute walk from Woodbridge Railway Station. When leaving the station, head to the river and follow the signs to the Tide Mill; the marina is directly behind the Tide Mill and Old Granary building.
